MONROE, Ind. (WPTA/Gray News) - A sheriff’s department in Indiana says a buggy crash in a rural portion of Adams County left four people injured late Sunday night.

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of State Road 124 and County Road 200 East in Monroe.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Department says a preliminary investigation shows a car and a horse-drawn buggy were traveling east on State Road 124 when the driver of the vehicle rear-ended the cart.

According to a release from the sheriff’s department, the buggy’s three passengers, ages 24 years, 2 years and 10 months, were all ejected as a result of the crash.

Authorities say the buggy’s 30-year-old driver was airlifted and the three passengers were transported by EMS to a nearby hospital.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

The sheriff’s department’s release indicates that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
