Family of renowned musician Isaac Hayes files lawsuit against Trump for using song on campaign trail
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) - The family of Grammy-award-winning musician Issac Hayes filed a lawsuit against former president Donald Trump.
According to a post from the late artist’s son on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Hayes estate is bringing the suit against Trump following the use of one of his songs during the former president’s campaign rally.
Hayes III said that Isaac Hayes Enterprises, represented by Walker & Associates, are suing Trump and his campaign for 134 counts of copyright infringement for the “unauthorized use of the song “Hold On I’m Coming” at campaign rallies from 2022-2024.”
“We demand the cessation of use, removal of all related videos, a public disclaimer, and payment of $3 million in licensing fees by August 16, 2024. Failure to comply will result in further legal action,” the post said.
Hayes III also said that Trump represents the worst in integrity and class with his disrespect and sexual abuse of women and racist rhetoric.
Trump’s campaign team has yet to release a statement in response to the pending copyright lawsuit.
