Biden, Harris announce lowered drug costs
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - In their first event together since President Biden dropped his bid for re-election, the President and Vice President Kamala Harris touted their efforts to lower prescription drugs for seniors.
Biden and Harris traveled to suburban Maryland to announce what they call an “historic” deal to lower the prices of 10 drugs for seniors.
The White House says seniors will save roughly $1.5 billion in out-of-pocket costs when new prices take effect next year for 10 highly-prescribed drugs – including Eliquis – used to treat blood clots. Jardiance and Farxiga - two drugs used to treat diabetes - are also on the list.
“Altogether our reform not only saved lives,” Biden said. “It saves the taxpayers billions of dollars.”
Vice President Harris also taking a victory lap today, and giving a shoutout to President Biden.
“I could speak all afternoon about the person I am standing on this stage with,” Harris said while standing alongside Biden.
Harris claimed the first Medicare drug price negotiations, authorized by the Inflation Reduction Act, have benefitted millions of older Americans and those on fixed-incomes.
“And now Medicare can use their collective bargaining power, thank you, Joe,” Harris said.
The White House said their cost-cutting efforts, such as capping insulin costs, will resonate with voters. Harris is set to detail her economic agenda Friday in the battleground state of North Carolina.
Wednesday, Former President Trump also spoke about the economy, which remains the top issue for most voters.
