MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) - A mother is behind bars after a 6-year-old student was found with a loaded gun at Geeter K-8 School, authorities say.

Ke’Erinie King, 22, is charged with child abuse and child neglect or endangerment, carrying a weapon on school property and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Memphis police made it to the scene around 8:40 a.m. Thursday at 4649 Horn Lake Road.

According to the affidavit, a Memphis-Shelby County Schools resource officer told a police officer that a student had a gun on school grounds.

The resource officer said that a 6-year-old student was passing the gun to others in class.

The gun was recovered from the student’s backpack by a staff member, the affidavit states.

Police said the gun was reported stolen, and it was found loaded.

The student was detained by Memphis police. No one was injured.

According to officers, King admitted the gun belonged to her. She was then taken into custody.
