Cause of death revealed for child actor on ‘Alf’ found dead at 46
Peoria, Ariz. (KPHO/gray News) — Officials have released a cause of death for a former child actor who was found dead inside his vehicle in Arizona earlier this year.
According to the Maricopa County medical examiner, “Alf” child actor Benji Gregory’s cause of death was a combination of heat exposure and cirrhosis of the liver.
Gregory, who starred as Brian Tanner in the hit 80s sitcom, was found dead alongside his service dog inside his car in a parking lot of a Chase Bank in June.
Family members believed he went to the bank the night before but never got out of the car.
His sister, Rebecca Hertzberg, posted on Facebook that Gregory “fell asleep and died from vehicular heatstroke.”
Gregory was 8 years old when he gained fame playing Tanner on the NBC show about a family that took in Alf — a hairy alien life form — after the creature’s spaceship crashed.
He also appeared in commercials and other TV shows including “The A-Team” and “Fantasy Island.”
The full medical examiner’s report has not yet been released.
