Flight cut short after door falls off plane following takeoff, officials say
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF/Gray News) - A flight in South Carolina was cut short after a door fell off a plane following takeoff.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a Diamond DA40 four-seat plane declared an emergency after the door fell off.
FlightAware’s tracking shows the plane taking off from Myrtle Beach International Airport at 2:53 p.m. on Tuesday, WMBF reported.
The plane then turned around and landed at MYR again moments later.
A pilot and passenger were on board, but no injuries were reported.
Wendy Hodges, who lives in the area, was leaving her home when someone rushed over to tell her a piece of an airplane had fallen off.
Hodges said she was glad no one was hurt, but she will keep an eye on the sky from now on.
