Prosecutors reveal recommended prison sentence for Julie Chrisley
ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) – Reality TV star Julie Chrisley is set to be resentenced on Sept. 25.
The U.S. government announced it will ask for a seven-year prison sentence.
In 2022, Chrisley and her husband Todd were found guilty of conspiring to defraud banks and the IRS out of millions of dollars to fund their lavish lifestyle.
Todd Chrisley was sentenced to 12 years in prison, and Julie Chrisley was sentenced to seven years.
An appeals court vacated Julie Chrisley’s fraud sentence in June.
The appeals court held “the district court erred in holding Julie Chrisley responsible for losses incurred in 2006 without explaining its basis for doing so.”
According to the appeals court, the district provided evidence that Julie Chrisley was involved in the scheme beginning in 2007, but it did not present evidence to support the claim that she was involved in 2006.
That lack of evidence changes “what the proper loss amount attributable to Julie is for purposes of the base offense level, restitution, and forfeiture.”
However, at the Sept. 25 resentence, the U.S. government will ask for Julie Chrisley’s original seven-year sentence to be reinstated.
The court upheld Todd Chrisley’s sentence. He is currently serving 12 years in prison.
The Chrisleys are famous for their reality TV series “Chrisley Knows Best” that aired from 2014 to 2023. It captured the lives of the wealthy family in the suburbs of Atlanta before moving to Nashville.
