Two dead in crash involving bus carrying college band

PIKE COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX/Gray News) - Two people are dead following a crash involving a bus carrying a Mississippi college band.

According to the Mississippi Highway Control, a busy carrying Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s “Band of Gold” was involved in a crash on Highway 98 in Pike County Thursday night.

The bus was heading to Summit, Mississippi for Thursday night’s football game between Mississippi Gulf Coast and Southwest Mississippi Community College.

No students were injured in the crash, according to a statement from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Officials said the two people killed were in a separate vehicle involved in the crash. Their identities are being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown.
