Teachers cut homework due to budget issues, parents say
LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) – Second-grade students at an elementary school in Las Vegas won’t have homework for the rest of the year because of a budget issue in the district.
Parents said they got a message from Barber Elementary alerting them to the budget cuts, saying in order to cut costs on paper and toner, the students won’t get homework packets.
“This is pretty extreme, if the kids can’t have three pages of printed homework a week, what’s next? What is going to be cut and taken away from the students next?” said one parent who wished to remain anonymous.
The parent is upset that budget issues are impacting students’ learning accountability.
The Clark County School District said each school is working out budget cuts on a case-by-case basis. They said the decision to cut down on ink and paper could have been made by school staff.
