(Gray News) - President Joe Biden welcomed Olympic and Paralympic athletes to the White House Monday to celebrate those who represented Team USA in the 2024 Paris Games this summer.

Biden told the athletes they are considered heroes to people across the country, and he was glad to welcome them to “your house.” He reminded them he’s only a temporary resident “for only a few more months.”

Team USA’s Olympic team topped the overall medal chart with 126 total medals for the eighth consecutive Games, including 40 golds, 44 silvers and 42 bronzes, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee said.

Of the 257 athletes who won medals, 44 of them won multiple medals, including 13 who won multiple golds.

In the Paralympic Games, Team USA finished third overall in the medal standings, earning 36 gold, 42 silver and 27 bronze for a total of 105 medals.

Team USA had 127 medalists including 53 first-time Paralympic medalists and 29 athletes winning multiple medals in Paris.
