Deputy dies while responding to crash scene, authorities say
WISE COUNTY, Texas (Gray News) - A deputy died while responding to the scene of a crash Wednesday night, according to authorities.
The Wise County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Lex Allen Love was rushing to the scene of a crash on County Road 4421 when he crashed into a concrete barrier in a construction zone.
Love, 26, was unresponsive when deputies reached his cruiser. He was pulled from the vehicle and life-saving measures were performed. Medics performed CPR as they transported him to the hospital.
Later that night, Love died from his injuries.
The sheriff’s office described Love as “an amazingly kind, young deputy.”
Love started working for the sheriff’s office as a jailer and later attended the police academy. He was a patrol officer with the Decatur Police Department in Texas before returning to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy.
“Lex is one of the best law enforcement officers to ever wear the DPD and WCSO badges,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook. “Lex leaves behind a beautiful and loving young family. A huge hole was left in Wise County Law Enforcement.”
