Man allegedly steals truck to make it to court date for separate vehicle theft charge

STILLWATER, Okla. (Gray News) – Two wrongs didn’t make a right for an Oklahoma man who was facing vehicle theft charges.

According to a Facebook post from Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Kody Adams is accused of stealing an emergency vehicle in order to make it to court in time to face a previous stolen vehicle charge.

“Here’s one you don’t see every day,” troopers said of the incident.

Troopers said late last month, Adams was at a gas station in Stillwater asking people for a ride to court in Pawnee County, where he was scheduled to appear.

When he couldn’t get a ride, Adams allegedly stole a LifeNet ambulance supervisor vehicle that had been left running with no one inside.

Adams made it to the courthouse and ditched the vehicle, officials said, but he was spotted by a trooper who arrested Adams.

Adams admitted to “borrowing” the vehicle, according to the Facebook post.

The trooper escorted Adams to his court date then “took him right back” to Payne County Jail on new charges.

Facebook commenters appeared supportive of Adams and said at least he was serious about making his court date.

“I’m amazed he was so dedicated to make his court date. Many just don’t show,” one wrote.

“The irony of the situation is vaguely amusing, but the reality of someone having so few options that they feel desperate enough to do this is really sad,” another wrote.

“At least you know he’ll do whatever it takes to make his court appearances,” another wrote.
