WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH/Gray News) - A 16-year-old boy in Kansas was allegedly shot and killed by his mother, according to authorities.
Wichita Police were called to an apartment around 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, KWCH reported.
When officers arrived, they found Robert Florence with a single gunshot wound.
Florence was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he died from his injuries Friday morning.
Tesha Florence, Robert’s mother was charged with two counts of aggravated assault. However, following his death, the police department said it is in the process of amending the charges to second-degree murder.
Tesha is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on a $600,000 bond.
“This is a tragic incident that has forever altered a family,” Chief Sullivan said. “Gun violence impacts our entire community and cannot be tolerated.”
Police said the case will be presented to Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett for formal charging consideration.
Police said they’re also investigating her in connection to another case that happened in March.
Tesha is accused of threatening her ex-husband and his current girlfriend with a gun, but they never reported it to police.
