BAY CITY, Mich. (WNEM/Gray News) – A man in Michigan was murdered and dismembered after meeting his accused killer through a dating app, according to court records.

During an arraignment, the prosecution told the court that 40-year-old Robert Tweedly Jr. admitted to his involvement in the murder of Justie Stilwell.

Details revealed in a probable cause hearing in September said Stilwell met Tweedly through the dating app Grindr.

Tweedly told police Stilwell came to his house on Sept. 14 but wanted to leave shortly after. The 40-year-old is accused of pushing Stilwell down his basement stairs and strangling him to death.

After failing to move his body upstairs, Tweedly allegedly went to the Walmart to buy a rope, which did not help, court records said.

According to court records, Tweedly said he went to Walmart the next day to buy an axe and bags to dismember Stilwell’s body.

He claims he dumped Stilwell’s legs and arms in the Saginaw River and put his head and torso near the boat launch, court records state.

Tweedly was arrested at a home in Bay City on Sept. 25 and was charged on Sept. 27 with open murder, disinterment and mutilation of a body.
