Cheech and Chong’s cannabis dispensary opening draws fans
PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) - Comedians Cheech Marin Cheech and Tommy Chong, better known throughout their long career as Cheech and Chong, were in Maine on Sunday getting fans excited about their latest venture.
This week, the iconic duo will be celebrating the grand opening of their first Maine cannabis dispensary in Portland.
The cannabis store at 58 Exchange Street in Portland officially opens on Thursday.
Over the weekend, people got a chance to meet them at their store.
“We’re slowly gonna take over America with pot because we’re gonna conquer America,” Tommy Chong said.
“We’re from Texas where it’s not legal. We grew up with them. So we wanted to come see,” one person said.
“Because we know the road to peace is through pot. Well, the thing is if you’re stoned, you can’t hurt anybody if you can’t find your car keys,” Chong said.
“So I gave him a hug and it’s like, I love them. I love them so much. It’s so cool to get to meet, to get to meet them,” a fan said.
“This thing is good for the community. It’s good for the cannabis industry," another fan said. “I actually have their album here, the ‘Big Bambu’ still sealed I brought to show them.”
“And I found out in California, if you wanna be successful, you gotta have a Mexican. Need I say more?” Chong said, gesturing to Marin. “This is it.”
“You’re looking at it,” Marin said.
